Crime prevention cannot be achieved by the police alone. Professional law enforcement officers must work hand-in-hand with the public to fight crime and neighborhood disorder throughout our communities. So, we depend heavily on your assistance in reporting crimes to the police.
The Newtown Police Department has recognized the need for an effective way for the citizens of the Village of Newtown, to report their observations about suspicious / unusual behavior of individuals in our community. However, we understand that there may be times people do not wish to report to the police with their concerns, knowledge or information they may have about a particular crime or ongoing criminal activity, for fear of being identified as the source of information leading to police response.
The Newtown Police Department encourages citizens to take an active part in making our village a safer place to live and work. In order for a community to be safer there must be a partnership between the community and the Police. To this end we have created this online tip line to allow you to communicate with the police to provide assistance in making Newtown a better and safer community.
The Newtown Police Department has established a "Tip Line" to allow you to enter information on suspected criminal activity, crimes that have occurred, or other information that you feel would benefit the Police Department.
We appreciate any help that you may be able to give us regarding suspected criminal activity but we do need to have some specifics to get an investigation started.
If you feel strongly enough please leave us some contact information so that we can follow up adequately on your "tip". If you wish to remain anonymous, please give us specifics on your information. Your "tip" should include your suspicions, what you believe is taking place and where and when the activity took place or is taking place. Dates and times are very helpful. If person(s) and / or vehicles are involved, please include:
names, if you have any physical descriptions of persons or vehicles license plate numbers, including the state.
The more detailed your information, the easier it is for the Police Department to follow up on it and take action. Of course you may leave a contact number where you may be reached for an officer to follow up with you directly.
