Dick Weber: Property Maintenance Inspector
One may ask, what does a Property Maintenance Inspector look for? I look for many different things. My job is to assure compliance to the International Property Maintenance Code, which was adopted by the village in 2004. Compliance of the maintenance code will enhance property values in the community.
As an example: The code requires all material manufactured for a specific purpose to be used for that purpose, not in a different use. Example: corrugated metal roofing is for roofing, not for use as a fence. The Code requires all materials to be kept in good repair. Flaking paint on an exterior wall is a violation. Broken and torn mini blinds in a window are not only unsightly, but in violation, as they are not in good repair. The following, if not in good repair, are violations to the maintenance code: gutters, downspouts, fences, windows, doors, roofs, yards, junk vehicles, any unlicensed vehicles, and parking on grass.
Items listed in the Property Maintenance Code are too lengthy to mention; therefore, if you question a particular item, please call this office. If you are aware of an un-kept property in your neighborhood, please do not hesitate to call me. Also, as you are driving through the village and notice a piece of property in possible violation, I would appreciate a phone call. An inspection will be made and if in violation this office will take the appropriate action. Information received is always kept confidential.
